Ace Q & A
1. Is ACE part of Markham or a Charter School?
The ACE program is one of three programs at Markham Elementary school. ACE participates in school wide events and ACE students are Markham students. The program also operates as a "school within a school"; parents choose to enroll in ACE to be part of a cooperative learning environment and to have their children taught using a multi-age, thematic based curriculum.
At this time, the parents of ACE and the ACE teachers are working cooperatively with the district to write a dependent charter that encompasses the philosophy and curriculum of the ACE program.
2. Do ACE kids get music, art and PE?
Because ACE students are VUSD students, they receive all the same services that all VUSD students receive. All students get music instruction and P.E. Additionally, ACE students benefit by having the special talents of parents/grandparents incorporated into the classroom curriculum. Currently, we have parents or grandparents that teach painting, pottery, Sign Language and geography on a regular basis in some of the ACE classrooms.
