Chorus and Band

The Markham School Chorus began its Winter Session in September, practicing for its musical titled, December Around the World, an international holiday celebration. The Chorus is open to third through sixth grade students.

There are a few things to consider before your child joins the chorus. A chorus is a group that must work together consistently to achieve a good sound and prepare a show. It is important that every student who joins chorus attends all rehearsals and performances. Any student who misses two rehearsals without an excuse may be dropped from chorus.

Choral singing is a complex skill that must be developed. It requires a positive attitude and hard work. There fore, this chorus is best suited for students who have a sincere desire to sing, learn about music, and work with others. Persistent silliness and distractions will not be tolerated. Chorus can be great fun, but only if we are learning about, and creating good music.

There will be many opportunities for the chorus to perform this year. This experience will not only build confidence in performing in front of an audience, but will prepare your child to continue chorus in middle school, high school and beyond. I look forward to working with your child in the Markham Chorus.

Sincerely,
Jack Perterson, Music Specialist
